Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is the most effective method of hair removal available that can be used almost anywhere on the face and body. Unlike other methods such as waxing and shaving laser hair removal gives long-lasting results. The hair will become finer and softer meaning less visible and the growth will slow down more and more with each treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Laser removal uses light energy to permanently damage or destroy individual hair follicles. This treatment targets the roots beneath the surface of the skin using a medical-grade laser to prevent regrowth.

The hair follicle must be targeted at a specific time during its growth cycle to prevent the hair from returning. As individual hairs could be in different parts of the hair growth cycle at any one time, you will need several treatment sessions to see long-lasting results. We usually recommend 6-8 appointments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Laser removal is suitable for men and women with all skin tones. It works on your entire body, including sensitive areas such as the face and bikini line. Popular targets include facial hair, leg hair, bikini area, underarm hair, back hair, and chest hair.

  • Laser removal offers a permanent reduction that can achieve a reduction of up to 90%. Any hair that does grow back will be finer, lighter, and softer, with the additional benefit of smoother skin.
  • No more ingrown hairs:
    • Laser hair removal vastly reduces the need for shaving and waxing, so you can say goodbye to ingrown hairs, shaving rash, and stubble.
  • Save time and money:
    • Invest in a course of laser hair removal and you may never have to wax or shave again – saving time and money in the long run.
  • Improve skin tone and texture:
    • Say goodbye to pigmentation and uneven skin left behind after constant shaving or waxing.

We are pleased to be able to treat any skin type, ranging from very fair to very dark. Our lasers can be adjusted to work with any hair and skin combination, provided that there is enough pigment in the hair (it is dark enough to attract the laser.) Laser hair removal is now safe for olive, brown, and black skin tones.

What skin type do you have? Find out your number on the Fitzpatrick scale below:

Type 1: always burns, never tans (pale, freckles).

Type 2: usually burns, minimal tanning.

Type 3: sometimes burns mildly, tans uniformly.

Type 4: burns minimally, always tans well (moderate brown).p

Type 5: very rarely burns, tans very easily (dark brown).

Type 6: Never burns (deeply pigmented dark brown to darkest brown).

  • Pain, discomfort, or tenderness
  • Red skin that may last for some time
  • Crusting, blistering, bruising, or swelling of your skin
  • Lightening or darkening of your skin
  • Scarring
  • Burns from the laser’s heat
  • Bacterial infections

Our laser hair removal treatment enables you to benefit from smooth skin, avoiding the in-grown hairs and irritation that can occur with shaving. Results are also more permanent than waxing, sugaring, or hair removal creams/depilatory creams. Unlike IPL (intense pulsed light), laser hair removal is suitable for dark skin tones and hard-to-reach areas. And in contrast to electrolysis, it can be used to remove hair all over the body, with the ability to target large areas at one time.

  • Firstly, anyone hypersensitive to light is not suitable. Several medications can cause this including anti-depressants like Prozac; non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen, Aspirin, and Naproxen (Paracetamol is safe); and many antibiotics.
  • In addition, people with pellagra, a condition in which there is a lack of vitamin B3 in the diet, are hypersensitive to light. Patients with lupus, an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal healthy tissue, can have photosensitivity and therefore should not have laser hair removal. And people suffering from porphyria, an inherited disorder of pigment metabolism, should not have laser hair removal. People taking steroids also have increased skin sensitivity and are unsuitable.
  • Patients on gold therapy for arthritis and those taking anti-coagulants are unsuitable for laser therapy. So are women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. They should wait until they have had the baby before starting a course of treatment.
  • People with keloid scars or healing problems like hypertrophic scars should not have laser hair removal. Likewise, people with vitiligo, a condition that causes de-pigmentation of sections of the skin. People who have severe histamine reactions like urticaria are also unsuitable. If the skin has become cracked or injured, it is important to wait until healing is complete before having laser therapy. This applies to people with opened skin after recent surgery or a chemical peel.
  • The affected area may be red with a raised rash for a few hours to a few days.
  • Regularly holding an ice pack to the skin may help (try a pack of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel).
  • Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun after laser hair removal. It’s best to avoid exposing the treated area of skin to sunlight until after the treatment course has finished.
  • Regardless of the weather, use sunscreen (minimum SPF30) for at least 4 weeks on exposed areas that have been treated.

The cost varies with each patient. Our provider charges per treatment area and some patients want multiple areas treated. Everyone has different needs.
