What is Acne?

Acne is an external skin reaction to hair follicles that are blocked with oil and dead skin cells. Most common among teenagers, it can affect people of all ages.
While not dangerous, it can create lifetime skin scars. Most often those with acne suffer from a decreased quality of life and sometimes face isolation, discrimination, and feeling unloved or unwanted. Many struggles with a poor self-image, low self-esteem, and stereotypes. Treatments open the hair follicles allowing the external skin reactions to heal, returning skin to its natural health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some types of acne?
It is critical to determine the type of acne you have in order to find an acne treatment solution that works for you.
  • Blackheads and whiteheads, also known as open and closed comedones, are examples of non-inflammatory acne. They appear as small bumps of black or white color on the nose, chin, or forehead. They are mild types that do not leave scars.
  • Papules form when whiteheads or blackheads become inflamed and irritate the surrounding skin. It is a type of mild inflammatory acne. Papules are small, red bumps beneath the skin that can be painful and swollen.
  • Pustules are larger in size than papules. These blemishes are circular in shape and have a center filled with white or yellow pus. They are inflammatory acne that is swollen and has an angry pink or red base.
  • Nodules are a type of severe and deeper blemish. When touched, they are hard and painful. Dark spots and scars can be caused by nodules.
  • Cystic acne is distinguished by large, soft, and painful red or white pustules. They grow deeper into the skin than nodules. They are the most severe types of inflammatory acne, and they are known to cause severe acne scarring.

The severity of your acne problem and the mode of acne treatment you choose will influence the outcome. Most of our clients report significant improvements following their initial treatment session. You may notice that their skin is no longer as inflamed as it once was. It’s brighter now, and the pimples are drying and healing faster than usual.
As you continue with the recommended treatment sessions, you’ll notice that there are few to no new breakouts or flareups that result in red, angry, and pus-filled pimples. Your acne problem will eventually disappear.
To achieve the desired results, your doctor will most likely recommend 3 to 4 treatments spaced a week apart. Most acne treatments have a four to six week duration. Follow-up treatments may be recommended to maintain clear and flawless skin, with the frequency of sessions gradually decreasing as the condition improves.
Most patients are able to resume normal activities immediately following treatment. At the injection sites, you may experience temporary swelling, redness, or minor bruising.
